PiNG had already begun its exploration of the issues raised by the anthropocene during action research residencies organised from January to June 2015 at Nantes venue Le Lieu Unique under the “0.CAMP” banner.
It has become evident to us that if we want to live resiliently in the era of the anthropocene, it is more imperative than ever to understand the symbiotic relationships that exist between humans, plants, and animals, not only in the thin atmospheric layer that surrounds our planet, but also in the oceans. Our interest in the topic continues: the 0.CAMP project is reborn in 2016 as 1.CAMP. See 0.CAMP residencies’ archives website.
This season’s selected artists work in the broad field of “BioArt” or “EcoArt”, and have already participated in the 2015 research program. Their selection offers them the opportunity to broaden their research and participate in public activities organised by PiNG.

1.CAMP MEETINGS
C’est dans l’ère | Citizen-Café
Held on the first Friday of the month, 5 to 7pm, Café Le Brocéliande, Nantes
The aim of these meetings is to collectively address the era of climate change through artistic media. Each meeting will provide an opportunity to exchange views following the presentation of a documentary, text, or podcast, with the aim of opening up new paths to understanding to our relationship with nature and our transitional society, then document the activity through the production of fanzines, murals, and other works.
Symbiosis : ocean ecology and art, gathering knowledge | Artistic residency
4th to 25th of April 2016 at the Roscoff Marine Station, Finistère, France
Ocean ecosystems are threatened by global warming and acidification. The first victims are the cnidaria, such as corals and sea anemones, which subsist on photosynthesizing micro-algae within their tissues. This endosymbiosis—mutual and beneficial cooperation between fauna and flora—is a massive inspiration for artists, anthropologists and philosophers. So we’ve organized an artistic residency at the Roscoff Marine Station, an ocean ecology research centre in Finistere. This residency will be led in collaboration with Xavier Bailly, a researcher in marine symbiosis there.

Date: to be arranged
The Roscoff Marine Station has designed a “Biobox”: an educational kit for the study of animal-algae symbiosis, biological diversification without genetic alteration, the consequences of ocean acidification, phototropism and the key steps in embryogenesis. The kit illustrates the complex and interconnected biological phenomena of animal photosymbiosis, of which the most emblematic is that of corals.
A workshop on the use of the kit is planned in 2016, in collaboration with Nantes scientists, technicians, and designers.
